Selective Mutism: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Assessment and Treatment

  • 10 Jan 2014
  • 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • SERESC 29 Commerce Drive, Bedford, NH

One of the greatest challenges in treating children with Selective Mutism (SM) is the complexity of their profile. Difficulty with self-regulation, engagement, affect, andproblem solving complicate the treatment process. This intermediate conference will show how using the DIRFloortime™ Model to assess and treat children withSM not only helps them start talking, but supports their ability to climb the symbolic ladder. Strategies to support older children with SM will be addressed as well as common struggles that impact families such as toileting, sleep, tantrums, and procrastination.
