Screening for Mental Health (SMH) would like to invite your staff to a Free Suicide Prevention Training in Manchester, New Hampshire. SMH created the trainings to support the implementation of its nationally recognized, evidence-based SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention program. These trainings are provided for free thanks to the support of Connor’s Climb and the Makin’ it Happen Coalition. Topics include:

  • Warning signs, risk factors, and symptoms of depression and suicide in youth
  • How to respond to youth at risk
  • SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program implementation best practices
  • How to talk safely to teens about suicide
  • Training adults in your communities and schools to support at-risk youth in seeking help
  • Tips on breaking down barriers to youth suicide prevention and action steps

Staff who attend this training will be prepared to return to their schools and deliver suicide prevention gatekeeper training to all staff. The SOS Signs of Suicide High School Prevention Program is listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices. In a randomized controlled study, the SOS program showed a reduction in self-reported suicide attempts by 40%. (BMC Public Health, July 2007)
